Your First Visit

Before you come

Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment so we can complete your new patient paperwork. If you have questions beforehand, call the office at 609-921-6610.

Bring with you:

  • Your referral slip, if you have one — it isn't required, but it helps
  • Recent X-rays, or ask your dentist's office to send them ahead
  • A current list of medications, including any blood thinners
  • Your insurance card and photo ID

What the appointment involves

Your first visit is a consultation and examination, not treatment. In most cases treatment is performed, or started, at a second appointment.

Dr. Humayun carries out a gentle but comprehensive periodontal examination, which includes:

  • A discussion about your periodontal needs and goals
  • A review of your medical and dental history
  • A clinical periodontal exam and evaluation of a recent full set of radiographs — we'll take these if needed and share them with your dentist
  • An oral cancer screening
  • Impressions for study models, if needed

You'll then discuss what was found, what it means, and what the options are — including the purpose and scope of any procedure, how long it takes, what recovery involves, and what it costs, including what your insurance is likely to cover. Nothing is scheduled before you've had that conversation.

If you're anxious

A lot of our patients are, and telling us changes how we pace the appointment and how much we explain as we go. It doesn't change how you're treated.

How long to allow

About an hour for a first consultation.
